♦ The Business in One Paragraph

Business context behind the case study

Magic Steam is a Denver-area cleaning company serving Douglas, Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, and Jefferson counties. Services include carpet, upholstery, tile and grout, hardwood, Oriental rugs, concrete, janitorial cleaning, house cleaning, and emergency water extraction across Castle Rock, Centennial, Parker, Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Littleton, Morrison, Castle Pines, Elizabeth, Englewood, and Columbine. Phone: 720-447-6865.

The Challenge

Page volume without enough depth

Magic Steam already had a substantial network of city-level pages built on Wix. Wix is fine for traditional SEO with the right work, but it puts some friction on the deeper schema and content-structure work AEO and GEO require. The site's volume of pages was an asset — but each page was relatively shallow and structurally similar to the others, which is the kind of pattern AI engines learn to discount.

The other challenge: Denver is a hyper-competitive carpet cleaning market with several aggressive franchises and one or two well-funded local players. Winning AI citations meant being noticeably more useful than the competition, not just "as good."

What We Did: Prioritized Depth Over Doorway-Page Scale

01

Picked the highest-intent geos and went deep on them

Rather than treating all 12+ city pages identically, we ranked them by traffic and revenue potential and rewrote the top six (Denver, Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Parker, Lone Tree) into long-form, locally specific resources. Each one now answers questions specific to that town — climate effects on carpet (Denver's dry air, altitude, snow-and-salt season), neighborhood housing stock (older bungalows in Wash Park have different carpet realities than new Highlands Ranch builds), and town-specific customer concerns.

02

Created a Denver-area cleaning frequency guide

A long, useful piece answering "how often should I clean my carpets in Denver" with seasonal advice (post-winter de-salting, late-summer allergen removal, holiday prep). Conversational AI assistants love this kind of seasonal, geographically anchored content because it's hard to fake.

03

Added emergency water extraction as a hero AEO topic

Magic Steam offers it; most competitors do, too — but almost none of them had answered the urgent questions a panicked homeowner with a flooded basement actually types into ChatGPT at 11pm. "What do I do if my basement floods?" "How fast do I need to act to prevent mold?" "Will my insurance cover water damage cleanup?" That content is now on the site, branded, and cited.

04

Implemented HowTo schema

For process-explainer pages (e.g., "how a professional steam cleaning works"), which makes the steps individually extractable into AI step-by-step responses.

05

Built a service+county cross-grid in the sitemap and internal linking

Five counties × nine services means a lot of relevant landing pages, but we made sure the internal linking pattern surfaced them in a way that reflected real customer geography rather than dumping them all in a footer link soup.

06

Worked around Wix's schema limitations

With custom code injection where the platform's native schema fell short — particularly for nested Service and Area Served markup.

What Changed

What Changed: Deeper City Content Created Stronger Signals

AI Overview presence grew across high-intent commercial queries in the southern Denver metro (Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Parker), where the rewritten city pages had the most depth.

The water extraction content started showing up as a cited source in Perplexity and Bing's Copilot for emergency-flooding queries — a category where lead value per visit is unusually high.

Voice search testing on Google Assistant for "carpet cleaner in Castle Rock" now returns Magic Steam Co. as the suggested business.

Average session duration on the city pages roughly doubled, a soft signal, but it reflects the content actually being useful instead of being a thin geo-doorway.
