The Challenge
Local fame that machines could not see
ASAP is a textbook case of a brand that everyone in their town knows but that AI search engines haven't quite "seen" yet. Pete's reputation in Turlock, Modesto is rock-solid — but the 209 area code is a smaller market, and the digital footprint reflects that. The award wins (Best of 209, Readers' Choice, Nextdoor Fave) lived as static images on the homepage. To a language model, they were invisible.
When we tested "who is the best carpet cleaner in Turlock," we got national directory aggregators and one competitor with a thinner reputation but better-structured content.
What We Did: Turned Reputation Into Citable Facts
01
Made the awards machine-readable
Each award became its own paragraph of text on the About page, with the award name, the issuing organization, the year, and a link to the source where possible. We added Award schema (part of the Organization schema vocabulary) wherever supported. "Best of 209, 2019–2025" went from being a graphic to being a fact that a model can extract and cite.
02
Wrote pricing transparency content
One of the highest-converting AEO plays for home services is publishing real price ranges. We added a "How much does carpet cleaning cost in Turlock?" section with honest ranges (carpet cleaning starts around $180 for the average household, etc.), the variables that affect pricing, and how ASAP's pricing compares regionally. Generative engines love this content because users ask cost questions constantly and most local cleaners refuse to publish numbers.
03
Built out sub-market service pages
Modesto, Ceres, Oakdale, and Patterson got their own pages — not thin doorway pages, but real ones with neighborhood context, common local concerns (Central Valley dust, agricultural soil, hard water mineral buildup), and locally relevant FAQs.
04
Surfaced Pete as a named expert
A short, factual owner bio with his years of experience, certifications, and association memberships. AI engines increasingly cite people as much as businesses; "according to Pete, owner of ASAP Carpet Cleaning" reads as authority, while "according to ASAP Carpet Cleaning" reads as marketing.
05
Cleaned up the review structure
Aggregate review schema, individual review schema where appropriate, and a clear "as featured in" / "voted by" section that maps to the recognition vocabulary in schema.org. Review counts and ratings now appear consistently in rich results.
06
Added a military and senior discount FAQ
Niche, but relevant — it captures conversational queries like "is there a carpet cleaner in Turlock that offers military discounts" which generic competitors don't answer.
What Changed
What Changed: Local Authority Became Easier to Discover
"Best carpet cleaner in Turlock" now consistently surfaces ASAP in Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, citing the Best of 209 awards and the longevity in the market.
Cost-related queries ("how much does carpet cleaning cost in Turlock," "what's the average price for carpet cleaning in Modesto") pull from the pricing pages directly into AI answers.
Phone calls referencing specific things only mentioned on the new content (military discount, the 1992 founding date, Pete by name) increased noticeably, a clean signal that the new content is reaching real searchers, including those funneled through AI assistants.
Sub-market pages began ranking for "[service] in [town]" queries that previously belonged to national directory sites.
